I have lived in the High Tatras since birth, I grew up in hotels where my parents worked. Studying anything other than tourism was out of the question - I run a business in tourism and it is a natural part of my life.
At eighteen, I fell in love with two "subjects" at once. With my husband Michal, the father of our four children, and with economics, which fascinates me and which I have been studying and teaching for forty years. The symbiosis of family and career happened in an interesting way for me. First the first child, then the first degree. Second child, second degree, third child, third degree. Fourth child...... and the race between the number of children and the number of degrees ended :).
BAŤA and JA(na) Piteková
The book offers a unique Czech-Slovak dialogue between the timeless ideas of Tomáš Baťa and the author’s reflections as a mother of four who has devoted 40 years to economics. 2 Worlds of Tourism in Slovakia
If you do your qualification work thoroughly, have every single source in hand, and pour your heart into it, you can offer it to the public even years later and be proud of yourself. That is what Two Worlds of Tourism in Slovakia is. My doctoral (1999) and habilitation (2005) thesis enriched with commentary on economics and dozens of illustrations. Why didn't I publish it sooner? The illustrator wasn't born yet :). She first had to be born, grow up, and gradually develop her talent. And I needed to mature in economics...

The book Your Economics is truly well done – practical, readable and written with incredible enthusiasm and lightness. The author approached explaining the basics of economics in a very original way: simply, clearly and gently. Even a complete layperson can easily understand that we actually live economics every day, whether we realize it or not. I greatly appreciate that she doesn't overwhelm readers with complex definitions, formulas or graphs. On the contrary – she presents economic topics in an understandable, interesting way, often with surprising connections. Even as a practitioner, I read the book in one breath and found much of value in it. The overall impression is wonderfully complemented by the charming illustrations by the author's daughter and the mascot Goodman, who symbolizes the most important thing: that economics doesn't have to be a dry science, but something natural and constantly present in our lives. The book is concise, but immensely apt and unique in the way it naturally connects seemingly incompatible worlds. You can feel that it was created out of love for knowledge and a sincere effort to pass it on.
I read your "Your Economics" with great interest. Congratulations – written in an understandable style, and even though I studied economics – foreign trade, I clarified a few things for myself as well. I must say that you are an admirable woman – teaching, studying, writing, running a pension, raising four children, taking care of your husband, and still playing the organ – hats off. I wish you to always have so much energy to keep getting your knowledge and experience into the heads and hearts of those who deserve it.
